Watt's love of photography began in the early 1970s while using his parents’ old 35-mm camera to take photographs on the Phin Reynolds Ranch. This led to studying at UT Austin and freelancing around Austin and the state. He also studied under the well-known photographer Gary Winogrand, who taught in the art department. Watt graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a Bachelor of Journalism degree, with the emphasis on photojournalism.

Watt did all the photography for the book "In Praise of Pecans," which traces the use of pecans in earlier times and includes images of the harvesting process and numerous recipes. Photographs were shot at Sea Island and St. Simons, Georgia, and various locations in New Mexico and Texas. The Bright Sky Press release is available nationwide October 2007.

Photographs taken over a 30-year period appear in Laurence Lasater's new book "Tailwind Both Ways," published by Bright Sky Press. Available Christmas 2007.

Watt has done the photography for a number of cookbooks such as "Barbecue, Biscuits and Beans: Chuck Wagon Cooking" by Bill Cauble and Clifford Teinert with the foreword by Tommy Lee Jones, as well as "Ciao Y'all," "Ciao Sicily" and "Ciao Tuscany" by Damian Mandola and Johnny Carrabba, hosts of the PBS series "Cucina Amore" and founders of Carrabba's Italian Grill.

Watt recently photographed internationally known photographer Robb Kendrick as Robb photographed on several Texas ranches. These images are in "Revealing Character: Texas Tintypes" by Robb Kendrick, Foreword by John Graves. The book is being published by The Old Jail Art Center, www.theoldjailartcenter.org http://www.theoldjailartcenter.org/ Albany, Texas. Robb is well known for his tintypes of Texas cowgirls/cowboys that run in a series of Frost Bank advertisements, for his work in National Geographic and for numerous other clients. The book is now available. Robb's exhibit opened in September 2005 at The Witte Museum in San Antonio, TX, and will travel around the state. Ultimately it will be in the permanent collection at the Old Jail Art Center.
